A Vietnamese crew member of a ship which recently arrived from Ukraine has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,414, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday evening.

According to the ministry's report, the 37-year-old man was a crew member of the Navios Marco Poloship from Ukraine which boarded at Nha Trang Port in Khanh Hoa Province on December 9.
He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and is now being treated at the Khanh Hoa Provincial Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
Earlier, two other crew members of this ship also tested for SARS-CoV-2 while being quarantined in Khanh Hoa.
With this new infection case, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 721.
As of 6 pm on December 21, a total of 1,269 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, over 17,616 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
