Nearly 3,000 new Covid-19 patients announed in Thursday morning report

According to the ministry's report, 2,965 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases 2,784 of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 2,433 in Ho Chi Minh City, 233 in Long An, 64 in Binh Duong, 53 in Dong Nai, 41 in Tien Giang, 38 in Vinh Long, 28 in Ben Tre, 27 in Danang, 15 in An Giang, 10 in Kien Giang, five in Hau Giang, five in Binh Phuoc, three in Hai Phong, three in Can Tho, two in Hanoi, two in Son La, two in Quang Binh, and one in Hue. 181 cases were found in the communities.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Wednesday, the city also recorded 3,556 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.

As of Thursday morning, 67,473 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 45,655 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 61 cities and provinces nationwide with Quang Binh confirming the first two cases in this fourth outbreak.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 71,144 including 69,043 locally-transmitted cases.

There were two imported patients who are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from abroad. They were sent to quarantine areas upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals.

As of 6 pm on July 21, a total of 11,971 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 370 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

The country has conducted over 4.36 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 324,955 people having received two doses.
