According to the State Bank of Vietnam’s Region 2 branch, remittance inflows channelled through credit institutions and economic organisations rose by more than 8 per cent from 2024.

Of the total, more than USD 7.4 billion, or nearly 72 per cent, was transferred via economic organisations, with the remainder handled through banks.

Asia and the Americas remained the city’s two largest source regions, together contributing more than 80 per cent of total remittances. Europe, Oceania and Africa also recorded positive growth.

Asia continued to account for the largest share, with nearly USD 5.06 billion, equivalent to about 49 per cent of remittances to the city. These flows mainly came from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and south-east Asian countries, where large numbers of Vietnamese work on a long-term basis.

The Americas ranked second, with remittances of more than USD 3.3 billion, or nearly 32 per cent, up almost 128 per cent from 2024. The sharp increase reflected income recovery among Vietnamese communities in the US and Canada, as well as rising transfers for investment, consumption and family support.

Remittances from Europe reached more than USD 921 million, accounting for nearly 9 per cent, up 16 per cent year on year. The growth pointed to improving economic conditions and incomes among Vietnamese workers in the EU, particularly in services, skilled labour and small businesses.

Oceania contributed more than USD 890 million, or 8.6 per cent of total remittances, an increase of 15 per cent compared with the previous year.

Africa accounted for just 1.7 per cent of total inflows, equivalent to USD 173 million, but recorded growth of more than 39 per cent year on year. While the scale remains modest, the strong rise reflects the expanding presence of Vietnamese labour and business activities in the region.

The figures show that remittance inflows to Ho Chi Minh City have maintained strong growth despite global economic and political uncertainty, reinforcing the city’s position as Vietnam’s largest recipient of overseas remittances.
