Hanoi tops nation in monthly per capita income

Hanoi recorded Vietnam's highest average monthly per capita income in 2025, at VND 8.374 million (USD 320), according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The findings were released in the GSO's 2025 Household Living Standards Survey, which covered 46,995 households representing urban and rural areas, six socio-economic regions and all 34 centrally administered provinces and cities.

Ho Chi Minh City ranked second with an average monthly per capita income of VND 8.064 million, followed by Dong Nai (VND 7.174 million), Haiphong (VND 7.139 million) and Quang Ninh (VND 6.917 million).

Nationwide, average monthly per capita income rose 10.9 per cent year-on-year to VND6 million in 2025, outpacing the 9.1 per cent growth recorded in 2024.

Urban residents earned an average of nearly VND 7.4 million a month, up 6.7 per cent from a year earlier, compared with almost VND 5.2 million in rural areas, where incomes increased 14.5 per cent.

The urban-rural income gap narrowed to 1.42 times from 1.5 times in 2024.

By region, the Southeast recorded the highest average monthly per capita income at nearly VND 7.5 million, while the Northern Midlands and Mountainous region had the lowest, at just under VND 4.2 million.
