After hearing about the government's decision to grant four consecutive days off from January 1 to January 4, 2026, many Vietnamese families revised travel plans and rushed to book flights, especially to destinations far from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

A Dantri/Dtinews survey found return fares on the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route ranging from VND 7 million to VND 9.7 million, with daytime flights typically 15-20 per cent more expensive and some services already nearing full capacity.

Vietnam Airlines is selling one-way tickets on the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route at nearly VND 5 million, while VietJet Air’s return leg from Phu Quoc to Hanoi on January 4 is priced at about VND 4.1 million, excluding taxes and fees.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways is offering lower fares on the Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc route, at around VND 2 million one way.

Other routes have also seen price increases. Return fares between Hanoi and Dalat range from VND 5 million to VND 7 million, about VND 2 million above normal levels, while limited morning flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue are priced at nearly VND 3 million one way.

By contrast, fares on the Hanoi-Danang route remain relatively competitive. VietJet is offering return tickets for December 31 to January 4 at around VND 2.7 million to VND 3 million, with some off-peak returns on January 5 as low as VND 90,000 before taxes. Vietnam Airlines’ return fares are about VND 4.5 million.

A Ho Chi Minh City-based ticket agent said some airlines are offering Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City return fares at around VND 1.2 million (about USD 47), though prices could rise if the extended holiday further boosts demand.

The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route benefits from a high frequency of flights operated by multiple carriers throughout the day, helping keep fares relatively stable.

Amid rising demand during the New Year and Lunar New Year periods, Hanoi police have urged passengers to book tickets through airline websites, official hotlines or reputable agents with clear contact details.

Travellers are advised to carefully check booking codes and flight information before making payments and to promptly report any suspected fraud to the authorities.
