Dong Nai imposes social distancing amid Covid-19 spread

The southern province of Dong Nai has applied social distancing regulations from Thursday midnight for Covid-19 prevention.

According to the decision issued by the provincial vice party secretary Ho Thanh Son, the social distancing measures will be carried out in line with Government Directive 16 until further notice.

According to director of the local Department of Health Phan Huy Anh Vu, by late Thursday, to date, the province has recorded 160 Covid-19 cases, including 128 since late April. Among those, 93 are related to the Hoc Mon wholesale market in HCM City. If patient numbers top 1,000 cases, the province would be overloaded with cases.

Under the social distancing measures in line with the Prime Ministerial Directive 16, people must stay at home and only go out in case of necessity such as buying food and medicine, and in other emergencies. Stores providing essential services and goods are still allowed to remain open.

Any gathering of more than two people in public places and outside offices, schools and hospitals are prohibited.

State agencies permit their staff to work online at home and hold online meetings.

Public transport is suspended, except for vehicles to transport company staff or those used to serve Covid-19 prevention and control activities.

The local health sector has asked localities to prepare medical resources for the Covid-19 fight.
