The bilateral relations have continued growth momentum over the past years. Both sides have maintained the exchange of delegations at high, ministerial and local levels, contributing to the consolidation of trust between leaders and people of the two countries.
In 2016, State President Tran Dai Quang, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan had separate visits to Cambodia and PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the 9th summit of the Cambodia-Lao-Vietnam Triangle Development Area in Siem Reap.
Meanwhile, Cambodian Parliamentary Speaker Heng Samrin was present at the 70th anniversary of first general election and PM Hun Sen attended the 7th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Summit (ACMECS 7), the 8th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit (CLMV 8) and the World Economic Forum on the Mekong Region (WEF-Mekong) in Vietnam.
The bilateral economic, trade and investment ties have also developed vigorously. Vietnam is the 5th biggest investor in Cambodia after China, the Republic of Korea, the European Union, and Malaysia, with 183 projects worth US$2.86 billion.
Vietnam is the 3rd biggest trade partner of Cambodia. The two-way trade volume increased by 2% to US$3.37 billion in 2015 and the figure reached US$2.382 billion in the first ten months this year.
In terms of tourism, Cambodia welcomed over one million Vietnamese tourists in 2015, up 9.9%).
The two countries have convened 14 sessions of the joint committee for economic, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation while border provinces of the two countries have organized eight meetings.
Both sides are working to prepare for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2017.
The two countries also have strengthened defense cooperation, including information exchanges, joint sea patrols, striving to soon complete land border demarcation and landmark planting to build the borderline of peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development.
