The bombs were found during the drainage construction at the committee headquarter on May 10. They have diameters of 10-15 cm. Right after that, local authorities zoned the area and arranged security staff to be on duty there all round the clock.

On the following day, the bombs were excavated and relocated.
An official from the committee said that the bombs were used by the American air force to destroy Phu Luong Bridge, National Highway 5A and the Hanoi-Haiphong railway route.
The authorities have continued the search in the headquarters campus for other possible remaining war ordinances.
