According to the Ministry of Health, during the four days of the Tet holiday, starting from February 8, as many as 507 people were brought to hospital due to fireworks, up 36 percent on-year, including one death.
The fatality was recorded on February 9 in the central province of Quang Nam. The 15-year-old boy was hospitalised in critical condition with multiple injuries, including head trauma, chest and abdominal injuries, eye injuries and burns covering 80 percent of their body.On February 8-12, around 6,230 people were hospitalised for treatment due to traffic accidents, down 0.7 percent on-year.
Two women in the northern province of Ninh Binh died in December as firecrackers they were making exploded.
The production, trading and burning of firecrackers and explosives has been prohibited in Vietnam since 1995, except for fireworks. However, near Tet, violations related to firecrackers become more common.
