Local authorities in Dong Loc Commune said on April 17 that officials had visited the victim’s family to offer condolences following the tragedy.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred on the morning of April 16. A man drove his car to take his older daughter to primary school and was also meant to drop off his two year old at a nursery.
However, after leaving the older child at school, he returned to his workplace in Nghi Loc without taking the younger child out of the vehicle. The girl remained in the back seat unnoticed.
The father then locked the car and went into work as usual.
At around 2 pm the same day, a colleague discovered the child lying inside the car and alerted him.
The girl was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later died.
According to local officials, the child was usually picked up and dropped off by her mother, while the father was responsible for taking the older sibling to school.
