Storms from late April 15 to early April 17 brought heavy rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds and localised hail across several districts, affecting homes, crops, schools, public infrastructure and power systems.
A total of 1,044 houses were hit, including one that collapsed, 262 with roofs torn off and 781 with damaged roofs. Nearly 86 hectares of maize and vegetables and 374 hectares of industrial and fruit crops were affected, while about 500 poultry were killed.
At a research and production farm in Bac Ha, six net houses covering around 2,000 square metres, more than 4.6 hectares of elite crop plants and about 150,000 grafted seedlings were also damaged.
Several public works and heritage sites were impacted by fallen trees and storms, while lightning strikes damaged two motorbikes.
Authorities said affected areas were spread across multiple communes, and urged localities to closely monitor weather developments and take proactive measures to prevent further damage.
In neighbouring Thai Nguyen, storms on April 15-17 damaged six houses and flattened 1.6 hectares of maize. One woman was killed after a falling tree struck her, officials said, adding that local authorities were providing support to the victim’s family and assisting residents in recovery efforts.
