The new patient is a 27-year old man who landed at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport on July 11 on flight IO4405 which carried 69 passengers from Russia.
All the passengers were sent to a quarantine area in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province upon arrival.
The man first tested negative for the virus on July 13 but he got symptoms like fever, sore throat, and back pain on July 18.
His samples were sent to Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute and the test outcomes released on July 20 showed that he was infected with the virus.The patient is being treated at Ba Ria – Vung Tau Provincial General Hospital.
He is the 10th Russian passenger infected with the virus in Vietnam so far.With this new patient, the number of imported cases has risen to 244, or over 63% of the total patients.
As of July 20, Vietnam has gone through 95 days without any community transmissions, the committee said.
Of the patient tally, 360 have fully recovered and there have been no deaths.
At present,11,697people who had close contact with patients or entered from virus-hit areas are being quarantined at hospitals, centralised quarantine areas or at home.
