Unreasonable fare hikes to be curbed during holiday period

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc signed a directive to boost transport and ensure traffic safety during the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day and Reunification Day (April 30)-May Day holidays.

In a directive dated April 15, the government called on ministries and agencies to boost transport capacity, particularly passenger services, to ensure smooth and safe travel, and prevent shortages caused by operators cutting services amid rising fuel costs.

Authorities were also instructed to curb price gouging and ensure fares are declared and applied in line with regulations.

The Ministry of Public Security has been tasked with strengthening patrols and enforcement to tackle traffic violations and prevent illegal street racing and public disorder.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Construction was asked to coordinate with local authorities and police to closely manage transport operations, control costs in line with fuel price fluctuations, and step up inspections, particularly of contract vehicles and fixed-route passenger services.

Officials were urged to manage traffic flows and quickly clear incidents to avoid prolonged congestion on key routes linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as major transport hubs and event venues.

Hotlines are to be made available for the public to report issues during the holiday period, with authorities required to respond promptly.
