Phu Quoc Airport
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport to approve Phu Quoc International Airport's development plan for 2021-2030, with a vision toward 2050.
According to the proposal, Phu Quoc International Airport will be upgraded to meet 4E airport classification and Level II military airport standards, serving 10 million passengers and 25,000 tonnes of cargo annually by 2030.
The airport will feature 30 aircraft parking positions, accommodating aircraft such as the B747, B787, A350, and equivalent models.
The plan includes retaining the existing Terminal 1, which has a capacity of approximately 4 million passengers per year while constructing a new Terminal 2 with 6 million passengers annually.
Additionally, the proposal outlines establishing a VIP area east of the air traffic control tower to serve the 2027 APEC Economic Leaders' Week in Phu Quoc. After the event, this VIP area will be repurposed for international flights or general aviation services.
By 2050, Phu Quoc International Airport will maintain its 4E classification and Level II military airport status, expanding its capacity to accommodate 18 million passengers and 50,000 tonnes of cargo per year.
By this stage, the airport will have 45 aircraft parking positions, continuing to accommodate large aircraft such as the B747, B787, A350, and similar models.
Terminal 1 will continue serving domestic flights with a capacity of 4 million passengers annually. Meanwhile, Terminal 2 will be expanded to handle up to 8 million domestic passengers annually. A new Terminal 3 will also be introduced, with a capacity of approximately 6 million passengers per year, dedicated to international flights.
