The floodwaters rushed down from the mountains, carrying mud, rocks and uprooted trees, leaving villagers with little time to react.

Large logs were swept downstream, blocking streams and pressing against homes, causing severe landslides. Several areas were temporarily isolated, and local traffic was paralysed in the aftermath of the flood.

According to local authorities, one house was completely swept away, at least two others collapsed, and most personal belongings were destroyed. Numerous livestock and poultry were also lost to the flood.

Many rice paddies and crop fields were buried under mud and debris, with recovery efforts yet to begin. Damage assessments are currently underway by emergency response teams.

Speaking with Dantri on May 29, village head Ha Van Dung said, “In my entire life, I’ve never seen anything like this. The water came roaring down from the mountains and swept everything away in just a few minutes.”

Local authorities have mobilised emergency teams to assist residents in recovery efforts and help stabilise daily life.
