The campaign, launched by the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) and the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, is projected to help raise awareness about voluntary blood donation and handle blood shortages.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan stressed that the Red Journey has become the country’s most impactful and far-reaching blood donation campaign. He emphasised its vital role in shaping Vietnam’s voluntary blood donation movement over the past three decades.

He noted that over the past 12 years, the Red Journey has mobilised blood donations from 59 provinces and cities, resulting in nearly one million units of blood collected nationwide.

Reviewing the campaign’s achievements in 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, director of NIHBT, reported that the previous year marked a record high with 128,119 blood units collected at 341 donation points across 58 days, covering the highest number of localities since the campaign’s inception.

Dr. Thanh underscored that the campaign’s slogan, “Connecting Vietnamese Bloodlines,” goes beyond words as it embodies the spirit of humanity, solidarity, and civic responsibility shared by the Vietnamese people.
