The newly-built Dinh Cong Trang Primary School in Binh Tan District receives nearly 120 first-grade students for three classes this year.
Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, the headmistress of Dinh Cong Trang Primary School, Le Ngoc Moi, shared that they have over 650 students for the 2024-2025 school year, including 120 first graders.
Phan Van Tri Primary School in District 1 welcomed 97 new first-grade students, divided into four classes this year.
A mother, Duong Thi Ngoc Thuy, said she took a day off from work to take her son to primary school on his first day on August 19.
"It was his first day at primary school, so he was very nervous," the mother said. "I had to spend lots of time reassuring him, but he still wanted me to stay with him at the school on the first day."
Teacher Le Ngoc Moi said that many students were eager when coming to see their new classes on the first day, but some others were shy and nervous and needed support from their parents and teachers.
"We hope they will soon integrate into their new environment, and we'll try our best to provide a good place for them to study and grow."
According to the HCM City Department of Education and Training, the city has some 1.7 million students in the 2024-2025 school year, up 24,000 against last year's figure. Primary schools will have the highest number of students, with over 626,000, including some 100,000 first-graders.
