Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper coordinated with Bach Mai Hospital to deliver VND 338,184,589 (about USD 12,880) to 24-year-old Nguyen Thi Loan on January 7 to support her emergency heart operation. This was the full amount donated by readers within a single day of her story being published.

Doctors at Bach Mai Hospital said Loan was admitted on December 27, 2025, with severe heart failure. She required continuous oxygen support and was unable to move independently, having been diagnosed with multiple complex cardiovascular conditions. A hospital consultation concluded she needed urgent heart surgery, with estimated costs ranging from VND 300 million to VND 400 million (about USD 11,400 to USD 15,200).

Her husband, Nguyen Van Quyet, said the family had sold their largest asset, a plot of farmland, but still could not raise enough money for the operation. The young couple live in poverty, have no stable employment and are raising two children aged three and eight months. Facing the financial burden, Loan asked doctors to stop treatment and return home to await death.

When Dantri representatives visited her in hospital, Loan was lying in bed with a pale face. Doctors said she had developed a fever and required continued intensive medical treatment and close monitoring before she could be cleared for surgery.
Visibly moved by the donations, Loan spoke haltingly due to exhaustion, but with renewed hope. “I did not expect that in just one day so many people would care and help me. This amount is enormous for my family. I thank Dantri, its readers and the doctors for giving me another chance to live and to wait for heart surgery,” she said.
Dr Tran Ba Hieu said he was deeply touched by the swift and timely support from Dantri and its readers. He described the planned operation as a major and complex procedure requiring close coordination among multiple medical specialties, with treatment costs far beyond the family’s means.
“The surgical team is ready and all medical plans have been fully prepared. As soon as the patient is strong enough to undergo surgery, we will proceed,” Hieu said.
