The Tay Ninh Border Guard Command, in coordination with relevant agencies, received 86 Vietnamese citizens handed over by Cambodian authorities at Xa Mat International Border Gate on September 4.
Authorities said the group comprised 56 men and 30 women. Of the total, 73 held valid passports.
According to preliminary findings, the individuals had been detained by Cambodian authorities in Battambang Province on suspicion of involvement in online scam operations in Cambodia.
The group received consular protection and assistance from the Consulate General of Vietnam in Battambang before being returned to Vietnam.
The Tay Ninh Border Guard Command is leading efforts, in coordination with other agencies, to complete administrative procedures, classify and screen the returnees, and verify each case individually.
The authorities have not yet released further details regarding potential criminal investigations or any subsequent legal action involving the repatriated citizens.
