The National Medical Council said on September 4 that the assessments will cover medical doctors, traditional medicine doctors, dentists and preventive medicine doctors.
The first exam is scheduled for March, with applications expected to open in January, while the second is planned for December, with applications expected in September.
The schedule remains tentative, with registration dates, venues and other requirements to be announced later.
Candidates will take the exams in person on computers or tablets at designated venues.
Rather than using a single format for all doctors, the assessments will be tailored to each field of practice. Question formats, competency domains, essential professional topics and exam structures will be set separately by the National Medical Council.
The council has asked medical training institutions to inform students and prospective candidates about the assessments.
The exams, being introduced under Vietnam's 2023 Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, are designed as part of a broader shift towards competency-based medical education, assessing whether doctors have the skills required for professional practice.
