Donors give gifts to flood-victims in Dak Lak Province on November 28.

In a statement issued on December 1, the organisation said it will provide a total of SGD 250,000 (USD 190,000) to Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in five regional countries, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, with each receiving SGD 50,000 for urgent operations.

Across Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka, heavy monsoon rains, tropical storms and cyclones have triggered widespread flooding and landslides, causing casualties, mass evacuations, extensive property damage and severe disruption to infrastructure.

According to the Singapore Red Cross, national societies are coordinating with provincial and district authorities to run relief centres, support evacuations, supply emergency food, drinking water and essential items, assist clean-up efforts and conduct search-and-rescue operations in the worst-affected areas.

Benjamin William, SRC chief and secretary-general, said communities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam are grappling with the devastating impacts of climate-driven disasters. Thousands of families have lost their homes, livelihoods and access to basic necessities, he said, adding that Singapore’s national societies are on the front lines delivering critical aid and the organisation remains committed to supporting them.

Floods and landslides across the region have claimed hundreds of lives, with authorities continuing search-and-rescue efforts, working to restore power and communications, and coordinating recovery operations as waters recede.
