Southern Vietnam is forecast to see widespread thunderstorms over the weekend before conditions improve during the National Day holiday from August 31 to September 2.
The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Centre forecasts mostly cloudy skies on August 29-30, with scattered showers from midday becoming more widespread in the late afternoon and evening, and locally heavy rain.
Heavy rain is most likely in eastern areas including Dong Nai, Tay Ninh and Lam Dong, as well as along the southwestern border in Dong Thap and An Giang.
Daytime highs are forecast at 29-33 degrees Celcius, falling to 26-28 degrees Celcius in Lam Dong's highland areas.
Conditions are expected to improve from August 31 to September 2, with less rain and longer sunny spells. Showers will be concentrated mainly in the afternoon and evening, affecting about half of the region, with moderate to locally heavy rain possible.
Temperatures are expected to rise to 30-34 degrees Celcius, reaching 35 degrees Celcius in some areas.
Moderate to strong southwesterly winds are forecast to persist. Vessels operating off southeastern Vietnam have been advised to watch for strong winds and high waves, while small boats should remain ashore.
Thunderstorms could disrupt outdoor activities, particularly in the afternoon and evening, with risks of whirlwinds, lightning and strong gusts.
