Nguyen Thi Hoa, from Hung Nguyen Nam Commune in Nghe An Province, smiled as she showed her nearly finished home, which was built with financial help from Dantri readers and charitable donors.

She said that in the past, after every heavy rain, she had to spend an entire day drying furniture and household items because the leaking roof allowed water to flood into the old house.
Now, that worry is finally ending as Hoa and her grandchildren prepare to move into a safer and more comfortable home.
The new house covers nearly 100 square metres and was built on the site of the family’s previous home, which was severely damaged when Typhoon Bualoi tore off the roof in late 2025.
It includes a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, one utility room and an enclosed bathroom.
Construction is now close to completion. Hoa and her daughter, Nguyen Thi Men, were recently seen cleaning the tiled floor as they prepared for the final handover.
The family expects to move into the new home on May 19.
“For me, even in my dreams, I never imagined I would one day live in such a spacious, beautiful and solid house,” Hoa said.

The house was built with total funding of more than VND 250 million (approximately USD 9,600), including VND 170 million (approximately USD 6,500) donated by Dantri readers and VND 80 million (approximately USD 3,100) provided by the Women’s Union of Nghe An Provincial Police and the Ministry of Public Security.
Hoa lives with a disability and lost one arm, leaving her without stable employment.
Several years ago, her daughter divorced and returned home with four young children after struggling to find stable work. They all lived together in the deteriorating old house before the storm caused further destruction.
As part of the government’s campaign to eliminate temporary and unsafe housing, Dantri launched a programme aiming to build 200 charity homes for poor and near-poor households nationwide during 2024 and 2025.
Since April 2024, the newspaper has started construction on 255 charity houses, of which 229 have already been completed and handed over.
In addition to the housing programme, Dantri has also built 58 classrooms, 32 bridges and rural roads, and 50 floating houses for flood prevention.
It has organised 32 free medical consultation programmes for more than 6,000 people, donated 7,210 health insurance cards to disadvantaged students, and launched fundraising campaigns to support nearly 6,000 families facing severe hardship.
