Truong Thanh Giang, Vice Chairman of Nhon My Commune People’s Committee hands over the new houses to representatives from four households on September 19.
The houses, funded by Dtinews' readers with contributions of more than VND 100 million (approximately USD 4,000) each, include a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. Construction began in May and the homes are now ready for use.
Truong Thanh Giang, Vice Chairman of Nhon My Commune People’s Committee, expressed gratitude to Dtinews readers for their support, noting that three of the beneficiary families are Khmer households facing severe housing challenges. The event coincided with the Khmer Sen Dolta Festival, making the gift especially meaningful.
One recipient, Ly Thi Dieu, 35, said her husband works as a construction labourer while she sells vegetables to support their six children, four of whom had to quit school due to poverty. “From a shabby hut to a solid and beautiful house, it feels like a dream come true. We are deeply grateful and promise to care for the house and keep our children in school,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Tran Thi Sa Ruol, 54, lost her husband early and raised eight children on her own. She now also cares for two grandchildren while relying on limited support from her children and neighbours. With more than VND 125 million (approximately USD 5,000) donated through Dtinews, she was able to build a safe new home. “I am old, any house would do, but my grandchildren need a better future,” she said tearfully.
