On May 13, Dantri, in coordination with Hanoi Medical University Hospital, presented a symbolic cheque worth VND 216 million (approximately USD 8,310) to Bui Van Doan, 31, from Ngoc Trao Commune, Thanh Hoa Province.
The amount was donated by Dantri readers through the newspaper’s charitable fund. The full sum had previously been transferred to the family’s bank account to ensure timely treatment.

Doan said that, in addition to donations received through Dantri, his family had also received more than VND 40 million (approximately USD 1,540) directly from benefactors and supporters at the hospital, including VND 20 million (approximately USD 770) from the Thien Tam Foundation.
In total, the young man has so far received more than VND 256 million (approximately USD 9,850) in support.
Dantri had earlier published an article about Doan’s struggle with severe uveitis, a condition that left him at risk of permanent blindness.
When he was admitted to Hanoi Medical University Hospital, he had completely lost vision in his left eye, while sight in his right eye had deteriorated sharply. Unable to work because of his illness, the family fell into severe financial hardship as mounting medical costs pushed the couple to the brink of despair.

However, after the story was published, thousands of Dantri readers and benefactors stepped forward to help. Thanks to intensive treatment, Doan’s health and eyesight have gradually improved.
Deeply emotional, Doan expressed gratitude to Dantri readers, benefactors, doctors and staff from the hospital’s Social Work Department for standing by his family during its most difficult period.
“There were times when I thought I would never be able to see again. The support from everyone has given me another chance to receive treatment and keep hoping. My wife and I are deeply grateful to Dantri, the doctors and all the benefactors,” he said.

Tran Thanh Tung, deputy head of the Social Work Department at Hanoi Medical University Hospital, also thanked Dantri readers and benefactors for supporting disadvantaged patients receiving treatment at the hospital.
According to Tung, such acts of kindness not only help patients afford treatment, but also restore their confidence and motivation to continue fighting illness and overcoming adversity.
