Australia delivers emergency aid to flood-hit Bac Ninh

Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has received an emergency relief shipment from the Australian Government to support residents affected by severe flooding.

Australian Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Renee Jean Deschamps hands over the supplies to Vietnamese authoritiesat Noi Bai International Airport on October 14.

The aid package includes 320 kitchen sets, 756 hygiene kits, 756 shelter repair toolkits, and 300 blankets.

The shipment arrived at Noi Bai International Airport on October 14, where Australian Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Renee Jean Deschamps personally handed over the supplies to Vietnamese authorities.

Following the handover, the goods were transported to Bac Ninh on October 15 for immediate distribution to flood-affected households.

Earlier, on October 13, Vietnam had also received emergency relief supplies from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the same province.

Bac Ninh is among the four provinces hardest hit by Typhoon Matmo, with estimated damages reaching VND 1.67 trillion (approximately USD 68 million). The province currently has around 1,500 homes still submerged and nearly 13,900 customers without electricity.

Many areas in Bac Ninh Province are deeply flooded following heavy rain triggered by the Typhoon Matmo.

During the Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership meeting on October 14, several countries and organisations announced aid packages for flood-affected areas in Vietnam, including: the Australian Embassy (AUD 3 million), the Korean Embassy (USD 1 million), the European Union (EUR 500,000), World Vision (USD 350,000), CRS (USD 100,000), Plan International (USD 58,000), and HWA (USD 30,000).
