Both families used to live in their old houses, which had severely deteriorated.

Thanks to financial support from readers, Dantri decided to build a 50-square-metre house for Son's family, which cost nearly VND97 million and a 35-square-metre house for Yen's family, with a total investment of over VND92 million.
The An Giang Provincial Border Guard Station helped with the construction work.
Speaking at the event, representatives of Dantri and An Giang Provincial Border Guard Station thanked kind donors and local authorities for helping them complete the houses on time.
Phan Van Tien, vice chairman of Vinh Xuong Commune People's Committee, highly appreciated Dantri and An Giang Provincial Border Guard Station's work in helping build houses for disadvantaged local people.
The committee presented rice and some essential goods to the two families at the event.
Son was moved when receiving her new house and the gifts.
"We're so happy to have this new house after years of living in our old dilapidated house which leaked when it rained," Son said. "Thank you so much for your great help."

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has asked organisations and individuals to build 100 new houses for disadvantaged families nationwide between 2024 and 2025.
As a ministry publication, Dantri Newspaper has begun a campaign to build the houses with financial support from the newspaper's readers and donors. Each family will receive at least VND50 million.
As of December 24, 2024, Dantri had constructed 76 houses, 60 of which had been completed.
