This morning, January 24, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, in conjunction with sponsors, granted 4,455 bus tickets and 580 airfares to workers and students in difficult circumstances living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Binh Duong.
The buses will depart from Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai for various locations in the northern and central regions. Meanwhile, flights will depart from Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City for Vinh, Dong Hoi, Phu Bai, Danang, and Chu Lai airports.
Those eligible for free flights had to certify that their families belonged to poor or near-poor households, those who had not returned home for the Lunar New Year festival in over three years, individuals in particularly difficult circumstances, or families severely affected by natural disasters.
This is the 5th annual programme organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
"I've sold lottery tickets for over a decade in Ho Chi Minh City and continue facing many difficulties. This programme is very meaningful to me," said Huynh Duc Lai, 70.
Nguyen Van Thuong, 39, from Ha Tinh, could not hide his happiness at benefiting from the programme for the first time.
Many people expressed joy in getting free tickets to return to their hometown for Tet.
In the previous four years, the programme has provided 16,196 flight and bus tickets for people in difficult circumstances to reunite with their families on Tet.
