Many Vietnamese travel companies are facing a risk of losing billions of VND as they have had to halt tours to Israel.
Huynh Phan from Hanoi was scheduled to start her seven-day tour to Israel on October 12. However, she was informed of the trip cancellation due to the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict.
Many Vietnamese people have joined Facebook groups related to tourism to Israel to ask for the information they need. But they are mainly advised to delay their tour for at least two months to come.
Vo Thanh Tuan, deputy director of Top Viet Travel, said that the company’s tours to Israel have been suspended. Meanwhile, tour deposits have been transferred to its Israeli partners.
Every month, Top Viet Travel sends a group of 25-30 people to Israel for VND80-130 million (USD3,265-5,306) each. Tours to the Middle East usually last for 12-15 days, attracting mainly middle-aged people.
“We have contacted our partners in Israel to know the actual situation there and then negotiate with them about the schedule and costs. However, they themselves have many other partners, so they can’t independently make decisions," said Vo Thanh Tuan, deputy director of Top Viet Travel.
Some Vietnamese travel firms have spent around VND1 billion to book air tickets and hotel rooms for their tourists in October, but they were not sure they could be refunded this money.
Many people have been advised to travel to other countries, instead of Israel as it is not sure when the situation could stop, said Nguyen Le from a travel agent in Hanoi.
According to the website statista.com doesn't seem to work last year, Israel served 2.6 million international visitors, including 2,300 Vietnamese people.
