The CAAV said most of the Vietnamese passengers refused entry were women.

It has asked the Ministry of Transport to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to send a diplomatic note to Singaporean authorities seeking an explanation for the actions.

Dantri readers have responded on line with witness accounts of the treatment of Vietnamese passengers by Singapore authorities.

A reader named Ut Thuong said she saw many Vietnamese, including women, being questioned by Singaporean aviation officials. No explanation was given for their treatment.

Another reader, named Ivy, said a male passenger who travelled to Singapore with her on holiday was also refused entry to Singapore. He was ordered to buy a separate return ticket to Vietnam, even though he already had one, but it could not be used for three days.

Vietnam's Jetstar Airlines arranged for him to return to Vietnam that night.

Two women who took the same flight to Singapore, one to visit her boyfriend, were also ordered back.

A reader named Ngo Ha Linh said he was refused entry to Singapore for a holiday without any explanation, though a travelling companion was allowed into the country.
