Floodwaters from the upstream Ma River carried large amounts of driftwood, branches, tree trunks and other waste onto the beach following recent heavy rain, according to local authorities.
On September 20, Sam Son Ward mobilised more than 200 officials, youth union members and residents to collect, sort and remove the debris.
Excavators, bulldozers and trucks were also deployed because of the volume of waste. The debris was gathered into piles before being transported to the Trung Son landfill for disposal.
Trinh Tien Dung, chairman of the Sam Son Ward People's Committee, said about 6,000 cubic metres of waste and driftwood were estimated to have washed ashore, including large tree stumps.
Authorities are prioritising clean-up work at the main beaches and expect most of the coastline to be cleared by September 22.
On September 18, debris covered beaches stretching from the foot of Truong Le Mountain to the FLC area. Most consisted of dry wood, leaves and branches, along with logs, tree stumps and some animal carcasses.
Authorities have advised residents and tourists to avoid swimming while the clean-up continues and are monitoring weather conditions and further debris that could be washed ashore if upstream flooding persists.
