Vietnam has continued to report rising number of Covid-19 infections with additional 47,200 cases confirmed on Sunday, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 47,192 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (5,102), Bac Ninh (2,360), Phu Tho (1,981), Quang Ninh (1,980), and Thai Nguyen (1,838). There were eight imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 5,224 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 33,851 infections found in the community.
As of Sunday evening, 2,780,251 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (519,993), Binh Duong (293,915), Hanoi (198,344), Dong Nai (100,529), and Tay Ninh (89,052). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,787,493. The country now stands 32nd among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 20, an additional 13,414 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,281,434.
On Sunday evening, a further 78 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,501. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Danang (7), Nghe An (7), Kien Giang (5), Ninh Binh (5), Binh Dinh (4), and Quang Binh (4).
Vietnam on February 19 administered 456,129 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 191.36 million.
