Vietnam has continued to report rising number of Covid-19 infections with additional 21,909 cases confirmed on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 21,901 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,903), Nghe An (1,717), Hai Duong (1,245), Thanh Hoa (998), and Hoa Binh (944). There were eight imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 5,092 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 14,982 infections found in the community.
As of Tuesday evening, 2,373,577 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (514,649), Binh Duong (293,000), Hanoi (153,899), Dong Nai (99,965), and Tay Ninh (88,606). Vietnam has so far confirmed 192 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,380,695. The country now stands 34th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 8, an additional 4,397 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,126,777.
On Tuesday evening, a further 97 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 38,521. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (19), Binh Dinh (8), Dong Nai (8), Thua Thien-Hue (7), Binh Phuoc (5), Hai Phong (5), and Quang Ngai (5).
Vietnam on February 7 administered 797,828 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 183.19 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, including over 74.35 million people having received two doses and over 29.69 million people having received three doses.
