Vietnam confirms nearly 4,200 more Covid-19 patients on Monday

According to the ministry's report, 4,175 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 3,074 in Ho Chi Minh City, 503 in Binh Duong, 154 in Dong Nai, 53 in Dong Thap, 44 in Hanoi, 41 in Vinh Long, 41 in Phu Yen, 37 in Long An, 34 in Khanh Hoa, 30 in Ben Tre, 28 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 19 in Soc Trang, 19 in Binh Thuan, 17 in Quang Ngai, 15 in Can Tho, 11 in Quang Nam, eight in An Giang, eight in Tra Vinh, eight in Kien Giang, six in Binh Phuoc, four in Bac Ninh, four in Hung Yen, four in Ninh Thuan, two in Lao Cai, two in Vinh Phuc, two in Hau Giang, two in Binh Dinh, and one each in Thai Binh, Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Hai Phong, and Ninh Binh.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Sunday, the city also recorded 4,692 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.

As of Monday evening, 54,376 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 34,825 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 58 cities and provinces nationwide.

20 imported patients are all Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from abroad. They were sent to quarantine areas in Hanoi, Tay Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong, and Kien Giang upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 58,025 including 55,946 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on July 19, a total of 11,047 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 334 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

The country has conducted over 4.28 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 306,475 people having received two doses.
