According to the ministry, 12 cases from abroad were recorded in Tay Ninh Province. They entered the province through Moc Bai and Xa Mat international borders that border Cambodia on June 18-22.
Among 79 locally-transmitted patients, HCM City posted 57 cases, Binh Duong 10, Binh Thuan (5), Gia Lai (2), Quang Ninh (1), Bac Giang (1), Khanh Hoa (1), Long An (1) and Hai Phong (1).
Covid-19 cases continue rising in Vietnam
Sixty cases were detected in quarantine and lockdown areas, posing no risk to the community. While 19 others in Binh Thuan, Bac Giang, Binh Duong and HCM City are still under investigation to identify the origin of the infection, including eight in HCM City.
Hai Phong and Quang Ninh have faced viral infections after many days without new cases.
By 6 am on Monday, Vietnam had logged a total of 12,585 domestic infections and 1,738 others from abroad. The fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic which started in late April has stricken 42 cities and provinces across the country, with more than 11,015 cases confirmed.
Fourteen provinces namely Yen Bai, Quang Ngai, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Bac Lieu, Dien Bien, Dak Lak, Dong Thap and Vinh Phuc have experienced 14 days without recording any new domestic cases.
The country has reported 72 Covid-19-related deaths, including 37 cases during the latest outbreak. Most of the fatalities are the elderly with underlying medical conditions,
So far, 5,759 Covid-19 patients in Vietnam have been discharged from hospital.
The nation has administered over 2.9 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, but only 143,121 people have received two doses.
