According to the ministry's report, the two new locally-transmitted patients include a 28-year-old man in Danang City and a 26-year-old man in Hanoi.
The man in Hanoi boarded the same flight with a Chinese man, who was previously confirmed to have Coronavirus, from Danang to Hanoi on April 29. The Chinese man tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 after returning to China the same day while the Hanoi man was found positive on May 3.
Meanwhile, local authorities are still finding the transmission sources for the case in Danang City.
Also on Tuesday morning, two imported patients were announced including a 65-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man who returned to Long Binh International Border Gate in An Giang Province on May 3. They were sent to a local quarantine facility upon arrival and tested positive for the virus the same day. The patients are now being treated at a local healthcare centre.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,985, including 1,607 locally-transmitted cases.
As of 6 pm on May 3, a total of 2,560 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, nearly 40,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
