On June 1, Lieutenant Colonel Do Van Khanh, commander of the Tan Ha Border Guard Station in Tay Ninh Province, said local authorities had imposed administrative penalties on Nan Aun, a Cambodian national born in 1992, for illegal drug use, and Nguyen Manh Tien, born in 1993 and from Quang Ninh Province, for crossing the national border without completing legal entry procedures.
The penalties were issued in connection with an investigation into offences involving illegal entry and drug possession.

According to authorities, at around 10.30 am on May 24, a border patrol conducting crime prevention operations along Route 792 spotted two men travelling on a motorcycle without a licence plate and displaying suspicious behaviour.
When officers signalled for the vehicle to stop, the pair attempted to flee towards Tan Trung hamlet in Tan Dong Commune. Border guards pursued and apprehended them shortly afterwards.
Investigators identified the rider as Nan Aun and the passenger as Nguyen Manh Tien. Authorities determined that both men had entered Vietnam illegally from Cambodia.
During a search, officers found Tien carrying a red nylon bag containing 4.8843 grams of narcotics in his left hand.
A drug test later showed that Nan Aun had tested positive for illegal substances.
Following receipt of forensic examination results, the Tan Ha Border Guard Station on May 29 launched criminal proceedings on charges of illegal possession of narcotics and organising the illegal entry of another person into Vietnam.
The investigation is continuing.
