A tropical depression developed in the east of the Philippines may intensify into a storm and enter the East Sea in the next few days.

At 7 pm of July 28, the depression’s centre was at 9 degrees north latitude and 129 degrees east longitude with sustained wind speeds of 40 – 50km per hour, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

It is predicted to move north-northwest at 15 – 20 km per hour and can blow up in the next 24 hours. At 7 pm of July 29, its centre will be at 12.5 degrees north latitude and 126 degrees east longitude with the strongest winds at a speed of 40 – 60 km per hour.

In the following 24 – 48 hours, the depression may develop into a storm and head towards the East Sea and continue moving north-northwest at about 15 – 20 km per hour, the forecasting centre said.

The possible storm comes shortly after typhoon Mirinae hit Vietnam, wreaking havoc across the north of the country.
