Coincidentally, on the same day of one year ago, tonnes of fish died on the lake. However, to date the final conclusion of the cause of death has not been reached.
Experts from Hanoi Water Drainage Company blamed the fish death last year on weather changes, explaining that the prolonged heat and sudden rain both led to decreased oxygen volume in the lake which might cause the mass fish deaths.
When it rained, waste water in the area also flowed to the lake, causing pollution which killed the fish, they added.
This was not the first time Hanoians witnessed fish dying en mass because of polluted water. Lots of similar cases have been reported at local lakes such as Hoan Kiem, Thien Quang, Thanh Cong and West Lake. Last year, West Lake saw around 200 tonnes of dead fish. But, no solution has been found to settle the problem to date.
