The week-long Hanoi Pride, launched on September 18, included a series of 25 activities such as exhibitions, discussions, film screenings, a bike rally and a walking parade. The event also had psychological workshops.
Thousands of people join Hanoi Pride 2017
This is the first year that Hanoi Pride has been organised by a committee of 11 organisations in Hanoi working on LGBT rights.
According to organisers, with the theme of Pride Capital, Hanoi Pride 2017 reflected the city, a place with traditional culture but remaining open to change and maintaining strong family ties while empowering the individual.
Vuong Kha Phong, secretary of Hanoi Pride, said it was important to celebrate Pride every year to show people living all over the country that LGBT people are standing up to ask for their rights.

Since the first celebration in 2012, Hanoi Pride (formerly Viet Pride Hanoi ) has become an annual event calling for the elimination of prejudice and discrimination against LGBT community in Vietnam, a country in which same-sex intimacy remains taboo.
In many foreign countries such as Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia, Pride is an annual event which lures the participation of millions of people, including politicians and allies.
