The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said a weak cold air mass moving south is compressing a low-pressure trough, creating unstable weather conditions across the region.

Northern areas, excluding Lai Chau and Dien Bien, along with Thanh Hoa, are expected to see moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms from the night of April 16 to April 17, with rainfall of 20 to 40 mm and isolated areas exceeding 100 mm. Temperatures are forecast to ease from April 17.
Two further widespread rain spells are expected between April 18 and April 20 and from April 22 to April 24, bringing moderate to heavy rain and the potential for severe storms.
The Central Highlands is also forecast to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the evenings, while parts of central Vietnam may continue to face heatwave conditions, with some areas experiencing extreme heat.
Weather experts warned that the seasonal transition increases the risk of hazardous conditions, including tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.
Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during storms and seek safe shelter, avoiding open areas, large trees and power lines due to the risk of lightning and falling debris.
