The Muong Lat District People's Committee reported on Sunday afternoon that 214 students at the Trung Ly Boarding Secondary School were urgently evacuated after a huge amount of rocks and soil fell from a nearby hill onto the dormitory at 2 pm the same day.
"The students were safely moved to live temporarily at a two-storey class building on the school campus," the committee said, adding that three rooms in the dormitory and some other classrooms were badly damaged by the landslides.

According to the committee, there are 15 rooms in the dormitory of Trung Ly Boarding Secondary School that host 460 students. However, it was Sunday and only 214 students were staying at the site while 246 others were visiting their homes.
"We'll close all schools in the district on Monday to ensure safety," the committee said.
Also on September 22, over 80 children at two kindergartens in Muong Lat Town were also evacuated after cracks appeared on a nearby road, which may cause landslides onto their schools.
As of late Sunday afternoon, local authorities had also evacuated 443 households with 1,479 residents who are living in flood and landslide prone areas.
Many areas in Thanh Hoa Province experienced heavy rain triggered by Storm Lousik, with rainfall recorded between 7 pm on September 21 and 10 am on September 22 reaching 106.6mm in Muong Lat District.
Flash floods and landslides have occurred in many areas, causing damages to houses, schools and roads.
