Hanoi has signed an agreement on putting the city’s electrical wire and cables underground in the 2016-2020 period with Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), Electricity Group of Vietnam (EVN) and MobiFone Corporation and Viettel Group. However, to date, the work has not yet been carried out in many streets.
According to the municipal Department of Construction, the main reason for the slow progress was that the city had requested power and telecom companies to work on the project at the same time to save time and money as well as avoid overlapping.
The reality is that the requirement has caused some obstacles because if one of the parties involved is delayed due to issues regarding labour or finances, the others are held up too.
The tangled wires are making the city ugly and threatening people’s lives.

It is common to see bunches of electrical wires on Dai La-Minh Khai streets which is part of the city’s Belt Road 2 project. Many households have been relocated and electric wires and telecommunications cables have also been affected.

On several sections on Dai La Street, the wires even nearly touch the ground, so local residents have to use a bamboo to push them up.

The wires swoop down to a shop on Minh Khai Street. The shop owner Nguyen The Anh said that this has affected his business as many people are afraid of the risks.

Vendors risk their life under the wires.

The same situation is seen on Vu Trong Phung Street.

Electricity demand has sharply risen these days as Hanoi experiences blazing hot weather. So, the tangled wires would cause more dangers for people.
