Six bodies of sunken boat found

Rescue services from Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province announced on September 18 that they had found six bodies of the 18 missing crew of a fishing boat that sunk after a gas explosion.

Search and rescue teams have failed to find any additional survivors but are still searching for nine remaining fishermen.

On September 16, the fishing boat was returning to shore when at around 3am a gas cylinder on the boat exploded. The boat sunk immediately 25 nautical miles from Con Dao Island and 75 nautical miles from Vung Tau.

There were 20 fishermen on the boat initially, however, before the gas cylinder exploded, two fishermen transferred to another boat. Three fishermen were rescued after the accident.
