The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has submitted the revised 2021-2030 development plan, with a vision to 2050, to the Ministry of Construction for approval.
Under the proposal, a parallel taxiway system and connecting taxiways north of the second runway would be developed by 2030 to link with a planned aircraft maintenance hangar.
Aircraft parking in front of Terminal 2 and the existing apron would be expanded to accommodate about 42 aircraft. Another apron between Terminal 1 and the VIP and general aviation terminal would provide about 45 parking positions, with additional land reserved for future expansion.
Several infrastructure adjustments are proposed specifically ahead of APEC 2027, including changes to airside service roads and the addition of a new service road for security patrols and airport operations.
Power and lighting infrastructure would also be adjusted, while a water supply station near Terminal 2 would be relocated. New and repositioned reservoirs, drainage channels and culverts are planned to improve the airport's drainage system.
The proposal also calls for changes to internal airport roads and an elevated corridor linking terminals 1 and 2, allowing passengers to transfer directly between the two terminals and improving overall operations.
Land west of the VIP and general aviation apron would be reserved for a future cargo terminal. Planned sites for aviation catering and fuel facilities would also be adjusted, while aircraft equipment maintenance facilities would be relocated west of Terminal 1.
The aviation authority has asked the Ministry of Construction to approve the revised plan and proposed that An Giang Province incorporate the airport development and public transport connections into its local planning.
