The provincial Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue Police Department said three vehicles had also been deployed to assist the search off Tuy Hoa Ward on August 9.

The tourist was walking along the beach with a local woman on the afternoon of August 7.

At around 6.45 pm, he approached the water to wash his hands when a large wave swept him out to sea.

Police and rescue teams launched a search after receiving the report, but strong waves and winds hampered operations.

Rough seas continued to hinder the search on August 8, but conditions improved the following morning, allowing rescuers to intensify their efforts.

The tourist remained missing as of noon on August 9.
