After more than seven months of construction, Tran Dai Nghia Primary School in Binh Hung Hoa Ward has reached more than 85 per cent completion and is expected to be finished in the first quarter of 2026.

The school stands on part of the former Binh Hung Hoa Cemetery, which for decades was the city’s largest burial ground.

Authorities began relocating graves from the area in 2010 as part of an urban renewal programme to create new public spaces.

The four-storey complex includes 30 classrooms, specialised subject rooms, administrative offices and a large playground. Each classroom meets national standards, with a floor area of about 52 square metres.

Finishing work, including painting, tiling, lighting and the installation of ceiling fans, is currently under way.

Around 150 workers are on site, with some sections being built overnight to keep the project on schedule, a representative of the Binh Tan Ward construction project management board said.

The school is part of a broader redevelopment plan for the former cemetery area, which also includes a public park. Total investment for the school and surrounding facilities is nearly VND 1.5 trillion (about USD 57 million), funded by the city budget.

Once completed, the project is expected to help ease school overcrowding and meet rising education demand in one of the city’s most densely populated areas.
