President Sang meets new foreign diplomats

On October 19, President Truong Tan Sang received new ambassadors and representatives from international organizations from Belgium, Finland, Switzerland, Iceland, Iran and the EU.

Meeting with new Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam Jehan Rockart, President Sang said Vietnam treasures its ties with Belgium, hoping that that two-way trade would surpass the current value of US$2 billion once the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) takes effect.

Talking to Finland’s Ambassador Inka Pecka Antero Simila, the State leader said he hoped Finland would help Vietnam promote green economic growth, environmental sustainable development and natural resources management.

At a meeting with Swiss Ambassador Beatrice Maser Mallor, Sang urged Switzerland to support Vietnam’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 term and its implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Receiving the EU Ambassador Bruno Angelet, he expressed his belief that with the great efforts made by both sides, the would be signed later this year, saying Vietnam is keen to enhance friendship and cooperation with Iceland.
