PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit aims to cement and deepen the bilateral ties and continue political contacts among senior leaders of the two countries.

The visit takes place when the strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Russia are on the rise.

Both sides regularly exchange delegations at all levels to create a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations.

The economic and commercial links are blooming. The two-way trade turnover jumped around 15% on year-on-year basis, from US $350-400 million in the 1990s to over US $1 billion in 2007.

Russia ranks the 23rd out of 81 countries and territories doing business in the Southeast Asian country, with the investment capital of US $302.9 million.

The two countries also enjoy closer cooperation in the areas of science–technology, education–training, and tourism.

After the visit, PM Nguyen Tan Dung on December 16-18 will arrive in Copenhagen, Denmark, to participate in the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) and the 5th meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP5).

The Government chief wants to take the occasions to show strong determination of the Vietnamese Government in the fight against climate change.
