The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam has proposed a restriction on passenger buses and coaches running through Hai Van Pass to mitigate traffic accidents.

The traffic accident occured on Hai Van Pass on January 8

Under the proposal sent to the Ministry of Transport, the agency has recommended solutions, including lane division and restriction of passenger buses and coaches on fixed and long routes to go through the pass. Instead, the vehicles should only be allowed to run through Hai Van Tunnel.

Hai Van Pass is seen as a dangerous place with many abysses and turnings.

According to the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, it is necessary to arrange more points where vehicles can stop, install warning signs and build speed bumps on the pass.

Acacia trees have also been suggested to be planted along the pass road to prevent vehicles from falling down cliffs.
